SIGNAL
Wienerberger UK & Ireland has secured funding from the UK government's Industrial Energy Transformation Fund (IETF) to launch a £6 million retrofit project. The initiative involves converting existing gas kilns at the Denton brickworks in Greater Manchester to run on hydrogen fuel, entailing the replacement of 224 burners and the construction of new hydrogen infrastructure. The company anticipates achieving 100% hydrogen operation by the end of 2028, with annual carbon reductions exceeding 11,600 tons. Green hydrogen will be supplied by Carlton Power's 15MW Trafford project, which is supported by the Hydrogen Allocation Round 1 and benefits from a strike price of £241/MWh.
CONTEXT
U3X is dedicated to the development of the global sustainable fuel industry chain, including investment in fuel manufacturing plants, construction and operation of fuel transmission pipelines, global hydrogen fuel trading, investment in hydrogen end-use infrastructure, and project cooperation on green hydrogen supply and high-energy-consuming industrial retrofitting.
