On January 23, the Baowu Clean Energy (Yangjiang) Green Hydrogen Industrial Park project, with a total investment of 11.09 billion yuan, was officially commenced in the main platform industrial new space of Yangjiang City, Guangdong Province. The project is invested and constructed by Baowu Clean Energy Co., Ltd., a subsidiary of China Baowu Steel Group, covering a planned land area of approximately 1,750 mu. It aims to build the world's largest offshore wind power direct hydrogen production base. Upon completion, it will become the largest green hydrogen industrial project in eastern China, significantly enhancing Guangdong Province's strategic leadership in the green hydrogen field and setting a benchmark for promoting the large-scale development of the hydrogen energy industry.
The project utilizes a 1.5GW offshore wind power green electricity direct connection mode for hydrogen production and plans to build an annual production capacity of 80,000 tons of green hydrogen. It simultaneously deploys the following core sectors:
The Baowu Clean Energy (Yangjiang) Green Hydrogen Industrial Park project pioneers the "offshore wind power direct hydrogen production" model in China. It integrates the entire chain of wind power and hydrogen energy, driving the development of upstream and downstream industrial clusters such as hydrogen energy equipment, green ammonia, and green alcohols through "green electricity direct supply and green hydrogen direct connection," promoting the construction of a "hundred-billion-yuan" green hydrogen industrial cluster.
The project's location in Yangjiang offers significant geographical advantages: westward, it can meet the green hydrogen demands of the Zhanjiang Baowu steel base and Maoming petrochemical enterprises; eastward, it can explore the Greater Bay Area green hydrogen market, providing geographical convenience for nearby hydrogen energy consumption and market radiation. To align hydrogen energy with the market, the project will undertake hydrogen pipeline construction, planning three hydrogen transmission pipelines from Yangjiang to Zhanjiang, the Pearl River Delta, and Hong Kong. This will significantly reduce hydrogen transmission costs, serve the Greater Bay Area hydrogen energy market, and support Hong Kong's hydrogen city construction.
On the day of the project launch, the New Metal Materials National Key Laboratory—Baowu Clean Energy (Yangjiang) Green Hydrogen Industry Innovation Research Institute was simultaneously unveiled. Operated jointly by Academician Zhang Yue's team from the Chinese Academy of Sciences and Baowu Clean Energy Co., Ltd., the institute will focus on breakthroughs in frontier technologies such as novel transformative nano-key components for hydrogen production, providing core technical support for project construction and industrial development, and leading industrial technological breakthroughs.
According to estimates, once all projects are fully operational, they are expected to create an annual total output value of over 10 billion yuan, contribute nearly 1 billion yuan in taxes, and directly create more than 1,500 high-quality employment positions locally. Among them, upon full completion of the hydrogen energy equipment industrial park, annual revenue could reach 4.32 billion yuan, with an output value per mu as high as 21.6 million yuan, demonstrating strong industrial driving capability.
